Supported by key engineering sediment laboratory, the port, coastal and offshore engineering research speciality mainly involves in the studies of the motion law of wave, tidal current, and sediment. It has conducted key technology researches for almost all the coastal ports of China and many foreign ports, including ports of South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and has made many innovations in related fields, including sediment motion law of muddy, silty, sandy coast, marine hydraulic power, and interactions with buildings etc.

Conducting key technology research for almost all Chinese coastal ports such as Dalian Port, Yingkou Port, Qinhuangdao Port, Caofeidian Port, Tianjin Port, Huanghua Port, Qingdao Port, Yangshan Port, Wenzhou Port, Guangzhou Port and Guangxi North Bay and the like as well as many foreign ports in Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Indonesia and other countries, and making a lot of innovation achievements in the field of sediment movement rule of muddy coast, silty sand coast and sandy coast and oceanic hydrodynamic force and building interaction as well. These innovation achievements not only solve important engineering problems but also enrich traditional professional theories in some fields, reaching international leading level.
